I know Dorby Yip and Angela Yip many years, ther were from Hong Kong, and they are doing Rainbow calligraphy since their Grandparent's generation, and they are having siblings that station at Japan, Dubai and India besides in Honh Kong, I am very sure they are the best Chinese Rainbow Calligrapher in my 21 year's entertainer life so far. I met My Lim many times in the event, Mr Lim was from China and had been in Singapore more then 15 years if not wrong, he had been doing his Rainbow Calligraphy in Clark Quay many years (He had moved out after Clark Quay's mayor renovation)

Went Chinatown looking for some feng shui stuffs for my Chinese New Year and came across Dorby Yip and Angela's booth at Pagoda Street today.Up to today, in my view, they still the best and unique Chinese Rainbow Calligrapher in Singapore's market.

Just met rainbow calligrapher Mr Lim Mao Zhong recently in an event, I think he is one of the longest Chinese Rainbow Calligrapher I met so far. I met him in his stall at Clark Quay many years ago before the renovation of Clark Quay. Other than doing rainbow calligraphy, he also read the fortune of your name while he doing the rainbow calligraphy during event.Hmm..I don’t think he got a website, but you can call him direct at his mobile: 9067 8295

China Chinese’s Rainbow Calligraphy

Taking about Chinese Rainbow Calligraphy, I would say Yip’s Rainbow Calligraphy is the first Chinese Rainbow Calligrapher in Singapore if I am no wrong, basically, there are no Singaporean Chinese Rainbow Calligraphy in Singapore up to today, if you can find it, I believe there are new migrant especially from China.

The different of the Chinese Rainbow Calligraphy with Yips’ Rainbow Calligraphy was China Chinese’s Rainbow Calligraphy was always written in bigger size about at least 1 feet by ½ feet or bigger.I would like to say, in Singapore’s Chinatown, if Dorby Yip and Angela’s Chinese Rainbow Calligraphy represent Hong Kong style's Chinese Rainbow Calligraphy, then Ren Yin Yin will be represent China style's Chinese Rainbow Calligraphy in Chinatown.

Passing by Chinatown today and found one of my friend doing caricature and portrait drawing there, his pastel always the best, I always like his drawing strokes because it was very nice and skillful! I always wanted to draw beautiful girl buy today his is the king! So he is in-charge drawing beautiful girls today. Haahaa! He was having good business, see the queue was told everything.Was planed open a shop with him after Chinese New Year, that was just nice and the location had been more or less confirmed.According my friend who doing business at Chinatown, the crowd was slow thought because the economy was not so goodFound Ivan and Lee Lee ‘ Airbrush tattoo and wire craft in Chinatown! Their rainbow calligraphy was the best so far I came across, many artist from China was trying their best to copy their style!

Illegal busking artist at Orchard Road

While the public complained the busking artistes whose playing music and the related activities had spoiling Orchard Road’s high class atmospheres and nice scene, you still can see some ‘impromptu’ or hit and run china artist doing their art in Orchard road.
I found the Chinese rainbow calligraphy was quiet unique, but after met some real professional Chinese rainbow calligrapher from China and Hong Kong; I found that currently only fewer REAL Rainbow Calligrapher in Singapore, most of them, especially who’s doing events like dinner and dance and related events was fake rainbow calligrapher.One Senior and professional calligrapher friend from China told me that one of the most popular China families who doing rainbow calligraphy can dough figurine making, was totally fake artists and seriously spoilt the great quality and graceful name of their traditional China folk art.

But what happened was currently, this China family was the most demanded artistes in the market, because they were the cheapest artist in the industry, as what I heard from one event artist, their special packet for the event booking was every 10 event bookings will be giving 1 free service.

Besides quantity, who care about the quality?

One Shanghai friend told me, he realized too many event companies in Singapore was not interested the artist’s skills level but only interested on hiring the cheapest artist for their events, Due to the globalization nowadays, more and more guests able to differentiate how good of the artist’s skills level, more and more Caucasians when to china and they know what it good artwork and what is fake art pieces.

Event at Ritz Carlton Hotel

Did an event at Ritz Carlton Hotel Singapore, met Belle Kuan in the event. Thought I almost 3 years did not meet her if I am not wrong, though she looks good and doing well. Thought once in a while, one of my best best blog reader - Mr Reggie also passing her some caricature jobs on and off, she looks living in a happy life!
Belle was asking me to update her both websites which I designed for her in about 5 years time ago, unfortunately I no longer keep her files due to my Pc had been totally crushed and al the data had gone; moreover I no longer doing web design.

She owed me many beers! Because although my blog had been highly recommend by Mr Reggie, Belle have not come to support me yet! Heehee!

Master Chuan had keep his web designed files which designed by me, and had been updated by himself in a much better version, but Belle never keep it at all, haahaa!

Event booking during Mid Autumn Celebration

Due to Mid Autumn Festival Celebration is Chinese Event, the event activities for fringe art booking during this period usually are Chinese lantern making demo, dough figurine demo, fortune telling, Chinese calligraphy and related Chinese culture related items.

Talking about great calligraphy, I prefer Dorby Yip and Angela (his wife), Mr Yong Cheong Thye (www.yong_gallery.com)

Talking about rainbow calligraphy, I think the only best one is Dorby Yip and Angela, you can found them at DFS Orchard Singapore, or Chinatown. I know them many years, they were from Hong Kong, many china artists was tried to copy their calligraphy art style, but none of them was successful so far.There were lots more calligrapher around of course, but they are the most popular that with high standard.

I like Mr Lee Kim Kuan’s calligraphy as well, his calligraphy usually in big size and written in a very creative way.The rest of the popular local calligrapher hired by event companies including Mdm Tang, Margaret, Edwin’s father (From Pho Leng Liondance), Mr Lee Boon Chye and etc.

There were few hot day I known was 12th sep, 13th sep and 14th sep, which is the main event date for Chinese’s ‘Mid Autumn Festival’. I had been hired as fortune teller, caricaturist and also doing silhouette cutting in these three different days for different events.
