As an ambidextrous caricaturist, I do caricature drawing since 1990 in Singapore. Einstien from Norway is the pioneer caricaturist with certain years before me, then follow by Eric Ng, Saik, Poon Ee Way whose were my senior. Chong Jit Leong, which known having shop at Yishun area doing full time portrait and caricature around that time as well if not wrong. Not much people doing caricature for events fringe art during that period. Nowadays, more than 22 active caricaturists in the industry.

One of Singapore’ Famous Portraiture artist’s Exhibition
Went to one of Singapore’s famous portraiture artist, Mr Siew Hock Meng’s solo exhibition at Hills Street, MICA building, after red the ads in newpaper. His painting was great and I found so many things can be learn from him especially people who draw caricature often like me, many people who like drawing and painting portraiture as well.I found one of his oil painting which something like the living style in Bali Indonesia, was priced at S$150,000, most of the rest of the smaller size of his oil painting mostly priced at $15,000.He is a great portrait master everyone was respected to; thought someday I should officially learn from him about how to draw portrait, haahaa!
Quantity and Quality and Profession
Recently came across few guests mentioned about the quality about the artists they hired for their events; they told me that the event companies arranged a China silhouette cutting artist and one of the China caricaturist in their event was working in an extremely slow, not only that, during the few hours booking hour, did not see them around in their event! The China caricaturist was not on her desk most of the time, the roving silhouette cutting artist which was the old white hair uncle from China was almost ‘disappeared’!
So they want to ensure me and my friends must not do the same thing as these China artists which believe is the China father and the daughter who cheating the working time in their event.
I had tried my best to do the best for them of course, I also believed all the local Singaporean artists sure trying their best to serve their guests during the booking hours.
I had few teachers was came from China, all of them was really someone that I highly respect them because they were really hardworking and nice people, I also having China colleagues, they were working very hard as well!
Thought these China artists who getting complaint recently had spoiling the great representation of artists from China.
As an event artist, we always trying our best to behave ourselves, because there always people from the client side watching our performance, nothing can cheat during our booking hour.
I came across this unknown name young student caricaturist, she was working really hard to serve the guests, and her drawing was quite good as well, because she have the right attitude while she doing the job.
Singapore is a small country, the entertainment circle is small as well, anything you do it wrong will be spread fast from the guests and clients (especially the committee in-charge), not the event companies stuffs or artists themselves.

Hot Day for Caricaturists in Peak Period
As per every year in December which is the peak period for caricaturists’ demand due to many companies having their dinner and dance. This year’s hot day for caricaturist was 5th December, 12th, 13th December and 19th December.
As an event artist, you need to be super duple careful about your booking schedule, if you realized you are having double booking, that was no chance for you to find and replacement because all of your caricature friends also taken in these hot date! That will be a serious problem.
Nothing to envy, not because you are that highly demand but it just happened so many dinner and dance running at the same day, almost same timing which either from 6.00pm to 7.00pm or 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
I think as an event caricaturist, we only can pay extra attention to ensure do not have and double booking that’s all we can do, because the whole Singapore was having dinner and dance in many places at the same time! Meanwhile, no matter how hard we are trying to grab the job, we only able to do ONE show on that day, haahaa! That is part of our event artist live.
I would say, during the peak period, the jobs was looking for artists; during the down period, all the artist was seeking for jobs.

May Toh’s Chinese Dough Figurine
When I tidy up my cupboard, found this little piggy dough figurine done by May Toh which is Singaporean who learn from China true dough figurine master many years ago.
This piggy doll which made by flour which was given by May in January 2007 during an event still in very good condition! (see my post in jan 2007)
I strongly recomment her dough figurine for those who looking quality artworks for your coming Chinese New Years events! May Toh’s website at http://www.talentsdata.8m.com/maytoh.htm
I would like to highlight this is because during past 2 years, I heard more and more guests (not the event companies or staffs) keep complaining about the bad quality of the flour doll which get mould and spoil fast which done by the current most active event artists from China (the parents and the daughter). Unfortunately I did not see thouse spoilt dough figurine at all, so got no comment about it. I just like to recomment some local Singaporean great artist down here.
Beside May Toh, another Singaporean who also provide quality dough figurine making, can see her works at: http://www.talentsdata.8m.com/02_003.htm

High Floor View
Took these photos while I waiting for my event start. To me that is a dramatic scene because I do not work in high floor office.According Chinese geomancy, that is not a good thing to see such ‘gab’ between 2 buildings, it represents a bad energy like a big knife cutting towards you; it will cause the unsmoothness of the luck. To solve this problem, through Chinese geomancy way: you could cover the window with curtain, or you can put a big round stone near the window or if is having big space, you can also put a water fountain to remove the bad energy of the ‘big knife cutting’.
