Chinese New Year Coming Soon

Time flies as arrow, once Christmas over, the next cultural big event or celebrating will be Chinese New year. You will see the street’s change to Chinese New Year theme deco soon.
As an event artist, I was struggling preparing Chinese New Year’s Chinese Paper Cutting.
Chinese Paper Cutting is one of the popular demanding items during Chinese New Year period other than fortune telling, Chinese calligraphy, lion dance and etc.Thought not much people doing Chinese Paper Cutting demo in the events entertaining market, I think it could be due to this type of art really need lot time to design and produce.

Just a Mid Autumn Theme Chinese Paper Cutting

Usually in theme related design, there are standard items to be put in, like this Chinese mid Autumn Festival, usually contain the moon, clouds, angels and related ancient theme stories.

I just applied the Chinese word ‘中秋’ means ‘Mid Autumn’ and amend some related cuts in this existing design.It took me totally 6 splitting hours to complete this artwork! Ouchi! Heehee!

Event at Asian Civilisations Museum

Sunday was having free entry to Asian Civilisation Museum Singapore, all the public was able to view the exhibitions for free, I think the best worth to view was ‘King Kangxi ‘s Emperor Exhibition.

They had arranged many programmes and activities for the guests and public, including Chinese Dance, Face Changing Performance, children’s art and crafts workshops and etc.That was great I got a chance to involved in this event!Just take photo with a family.

Paper Cutting

Just struggling of preparing some Chinese paper cutting for an coming event during the past 2 weeks. Doing a real Chinese paper cutting or related paper art, you need time and patients plus some cutting skills.In the paper cutting art, you need to present the nice design of the artworks, at least we need to apply some design especially the related traditional Chinese decoration patterns.

I had came across some complaint about some people just do cutting on the Chinese characters and they called it ‘Chinese Paper Cutting’, I had check which some seniors China artist and related reference books, none of them agree such cutting as Chinese Paper Cutting, unless the artist produce the Chinese character in paper cutting with some design and patterns like this (given by a senior paper cutting artist):

I just copied and did a sample which some event people and guests ever complained as ‘cheating’ Chinese paper cutting:As in a “Globalization” world nowadays, there are many people had been traveled to many countries and they had been seeing so many kind of artworks, as a professional artists we need to be always trying to improve ourselves, there are always having people can tell whether your skill is real of fake.

Did Chinese paper Cutting for Chinese New Year Event.The prop provided by the organizer was really nice and cute.There was a ‘er hu’ Chinese instrument musician performance in the event.…and wealth god!Just took some photo at the bar counter before the guest come.

Chinese Paper Cutting Preparations

I was ‘so free’ during the whole week due to no booking for event. You sure I am so free? You are wrong! As an entertainer, a professional artist and entertainer which not fake artist who just passing time during the working hour.

One of the thousand ‘must do’ things was some Chinese paper cutting demo booking, so that was lots ‘behind stage job’ to be done before the actual day. That was a lots for paper for me to design, prepare and pre-cut! Ouchi!Guess what I think now? I was thinking I just sit back and relax and the $$$ will come automatically! Heehee!

Let me have a extra big size and high cholesterol pork chop to release my high pressure! Hia hia hia! It was 15cm x 10cm and the thickness was 4cm which I bought from NTUC supermarket and cook by myself! Hia hia hia!

Chinese Paper Cutting

Did an event for Chinese Paper cutting demonstration in a shopping mall. Chinese Paper cutting is one of the common booking items during Chinese New period. Usually we need some time to prepare the material and prepare some pre-made samples due to most of the cutting design need quiet some times produce.
That was great that after the show, we treated by the guests.Talking about Chinese New Year event item, I remember one of my friend William Lee ‘s new item which is call “Pebble Calligraphy”, which written the calligraphy on the stone!

Chinese New Year Events Preparation

Chinese New Year is coming in a extra early this year, the eve of Chinese New Year fall on 25th Jan and 26th Jan Monday is the first day of Chinese New Year, there left 23 days from the time I post this blogging.

Just like Chinese theme artists, I need to prepare lots of pre made stuffs, because the Chinese Paper Cutting involved some designs other than the traditional basic patterns. Usually the most popular cutting will be the zodiac based on the New Year; like the coming New Year was year of Ox (己丑年); other than that, the rest of the cutting was mostly about wealth and lucks.My face reading and palm reading display stuffs.My Power Suit!
