Most of the people and artist thought only marker is the most suitable or the only medium to do live caricature drawing, in my past years experiences and research, marker pen considered a mainstream medium but not essence, that were lots more medium can be use as medium for live caricature.
Just came across Thai caricaturist using charcoal while i doing my Silhouette cutting in the event at Bangkok recently. I found their artwork was really great! They are using charcoal as medium the live caricature. Seems many things can be learn from them as well.So far as I know that there are not much caricaturists using charcoal as medium for live caricature in Singapore during event booking.
As an ambidextrous caricaturist, I do caricature drawing since 1990 in Singapore. Einstien from Norway is the pioneer caricaturist with certain years before me, then follow by Eric Ng, Saik, Poon Ee Way whose were my senior. Chong Jit Leong, which known having shop at Yishun area doing full time portrait and caricature around that time as well if not wrong. Not much people doing caricature for events fringe art during that period. Nowadays, more than 22 active caricaturists in the industry.

Roving Caricature
Just completed one roving caricature job at one of the Singapore's IR and met some event entertainers down there as well.Seems roving caricature was getting higher demand in our current market now, because many of the event companies was asking for roving caricature job.
In my view, roving job could be very easy and could be very tough job, it involved many experiences to handle the crowd, especially playing the role of crowd puller, entertain the public in an open area like the main entrance area of the huge size shopping mall or conference hall; these are the things you need to take note other than maintain your basic drawing skills.
Thought in the roving job session, for example, the caricaturist not just do his/her drawing and give to the guests/public, the balloonist not just making the balloons and give out just like that.
Since we already surrounded be the crowd (especially doing for the public) while we at work, we need to know how to present our artworks in a best way to increase our entertaining level, hence, we can call our self an entertainer, which much more than just an event artist.
My dinner of the day! Hiak hiak!
